It is the oldest institution providing instruction in Arts and Science streams up to the degree and Post graduate level in the state of Goa.The College moved into its own new and spacious premises in 1971. It had been affiliated to the University of Bombay from June 1962 till 18th June, 1986. From 19th June, 1986 it stands affiliated to the Goa University.
The Higher Secondary section of the college was started immediately after the introduction of the 10+2+3 pattern in 1975. It sends up candidates to the Higher Secondary School Certificate Examination of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.The Chowgule Education Society is committed to support the College for further growth and development to meet adequately the educational needs of the changing times in the state of Goa.
The Chowgule College has undergone significant changes on all fronts. New courses have been created, various faculty development programmes are being undertaken and large number of activities and special programmes for students have been introduced. Because of these multidimensional activities, the College results have improved significantly. The performance of the College has been recognised at the National level by the University Grants Commission and at the International Level, by Ford Foundation, U.S.A. through award of special grants.
