Introduction of college: The subject Microbiology was introduced in the college in the year 1981, under the department of Botany. Dr. M.G. Deshmukh headed the department. Their department is one of the first few in Marathawada region.

In the year 1982 Mrs. H.G. Shete was appointed as the first expertise in Microbiology and then in the year 1983 Mrs. M.P. Chitanand was appointed as the second staff member for Microbiology. The department thus was with two expertises in Microbiology. Dr. M.G. Deshmukh, Dr. R.L. Kulkarni and Mr. P.G. Pathak took great efforts to establish the subject in this college.

In the year 1984, the first batch of Microbiology was passed out.In July 1993 Mrs. H.G. Shete was deputed for M.Phil., at the department of Microbiology, University of Pune, Pune; under the FIP scheme. Mr. Kagne was appointed in her place for one year. In July 1994 she joined the department again. By considering the wide scope of the subject Microbiology, postgraduate course was started in the year 1999, with the intake capacity of thirty students. We had a great response of students from all over Maharashtra, as well as from other states. Ms. Solanki M.S. and Ms. Lonikar V.B. were appointed as core staff members for one year. In the year 2000, Mr.A.A. Atnoorkar and Mrs.Mukkawar S.R. were appointed as core staff members for postgraduate course. During the year 2001-2003

Mr.P.P.Choudhary worked as contributory lecturer, while in the year 2002 Ms. D.C.Kulkarni was appointed as the third core staff. Dr. S.S.Kulkarni, a staff member of the department of Mathematics and statistics is associated with Microbiology as expertise in the biostatistics. In the year 2001, first batch of M.Sc. was passed out. It is proud to our department that consistantly for last three years i.e. from 2001-2003, our students had achieved University merit ranks as toppers. Dr. M.G. Deshmukh, head of the department of Botany worked a lot for the overall development of the department for undergraduate as well as post graduate courses in Microbiology, while Mrs. H.G. Shete was associated with the academic development of the subject Microbiology. In September 2003, Mrs. H.G. Shete took charge as Head of the department of Microbiology. During the years, the department has achieved academic success and many past students of the department have made successful careers as industrial administrator, teachers and entrepreneurs.
